Not much about today's society has changed, other than the fact that people are more likely to hide their true feelings and beliefs because its widely frowned upon. Its rather sad to see how little we have actually progressed in the continuous fight for equality. As much as we would like to believe that things have changed and gotten more equal, the reality is that things have just become better masked within our society.
