Celebrating 50 yrs: The March on Washington

Today marks the 50 yr anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther Kings' "I have a dream speech". The speech was given during a march through the streets of Washington, DC for civil right & equality for African Americans in these united states. The stories & memories shared by those that were there 50 yrs ago are incredible. Its amazing to hear & see the progress that has been made. Its wonderful to see us, African Americans, come together as a whole, as a nation, as a people & as a community to make our voices heard. We have progressed a significant amount as a people but sadly we have not progressed enough. We come together young & old to celebrate what our ancestors overcame & went through so that we can be where we are today. People of different races, nationalities, creeds & religions all living & thriving together as a people, at least on the surface as it seems. We, the African American community, have overcome the blatantly obvious racism that our ancestors fought against, but racism is very much still alive & well within our country and the only way to fight it now is to get smart about it. We must educate ourselves & get in positions of power in order to bring attention to & change the laws & standards currently acceptable in America. Dr. King & our ancestors started a great movement that brought great results for our people & now its our time to come together & to rise up as a people in order to continue this movement & legacy for generations to come. We cannot expect continuous progression if we are not pushing the boundaries. In this time we must be glad & celebrate the progress that has been made but always aware that there is still work to be done, progress to be made, & adversities to overcome.
