Race Relationship

I watched a very interesting episode of "The Trisha Show" today. It was about race, racism, race hatred of how ever you would like to label it. Watching and listening to the things these guest said left me in awe and disbelief. The year is 2013, we have a black president in office, we have progressed so much from slavery and segregation and yet people are to so ignorant that the progression of this nation is at a standstill. It amazes me to hear someone bad mouth another race at this day in age but to hear a member of a race bad mouth itself is just downright baffling.
It seems as though we have learned absolutely nothing from the struggles of our ancestors and their fight for equality. People hate that interracial relationships of any kind are accepted, particularly that of African Americans and Whites. I on the other hand applaud it. It shows how we have advanced, it shows the barriers and struggles we have overcome. It shows what the world could be if people stopped using the past as a crutch and instead used it as a tool of motivation to drive out the hatred and the stereotypes and work toward further advancement. How does hating who someone else is dating improve your life? How does that help you accomplish your dreams and goals? RIGHT it does not. Who someone decides to love and what they do with that person does not and should not concern you, nor does it warrant your two cents unless you are the person they are with.
Another concern stated earlier was hatred of ones own race. That makes absolutely no sense to make to me. How can you hate that which you are? How can you undermine that which you come from? I honestly can not stand or fathom a black male saying he doesn't like black women. So in an essences what you are saying is that you do not like your mother, or your grandmother, or aunts, sisters and female cousins? Everyone likes who they like and that is fine. It is ok to prefer to date out of race, in race or have no preference at all but it is not ok to demean members of your own racial identity. For one to believe and uphold stereotypes against ones own race is ridiculous and makes you no better than the whites that in slaved out people years ago. You are simply re-enslaving your own people instead of taking actions to create progress within your community.
Now I do understand that their is still a lot of work that needs to be done and should be done within our African American community, but we as African Americans can not be as ignorant as the stereotypes present today. We have all the resources needed to advance our people and our communities it is simply a matter of actually using these resources to our advantage. Now is a time where we need a new movement. Our ancestors did it to get out of slavery, then again to gain equality in these United States. Now it is our time to underwrite the stereotypes that we are ignorant, hoodlums, ghetto, lazy, stupid, or dumb. It is time for us college educated, personally educated or community educated African Americans to find a common ground and understanding that all the problems we face in society are the same regardless of upbringing background or the advancements we've made. The only way for us to continue to grow and advance as a people is for us to work together as a people and make strides so that future generations know their wealth and value in America outside of the stereotypical athlete or musician.
All in all we as African Americans are a beautiful people. It is time that we recognize that and act like it. It is time that we work together to educate ourselves and our children on loving ourselves and believing in ourselves and our worth. We must stop the violence against ourselves and rebuild a sense of community amongst ourselves. Now is the time for us to break all stereotypes by loving, accepting and respecting ourselves in the ways that we want society to love, accept and respect us.
